Overview

The HSE General Manager provides strategic leadership and expertise in health, safety, industrial health, and fire prevention across operations in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture. This role collaborates with business leadership to support organizational objectives while continuously improving safety performance, risk management, and environmental sustainability.

Responsibilities

Provide expert guidance to all management levels on safety, industrial health, and fire prevention strategies aligned with corporate goals. Collaborate with Business Leadership to integrate safety into overall business direction.

Design, implement, and manage company-wide safety, health, and fire prevention programs, policies, tools, and procedures. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and provincial regulations.

Lead initiatives to enhance safety performance across assigned sites. Conduct site assessments (e.g. EHS audits), manage incident investigations, employee concerns/complaints, and proactively resolved safety-related issues.

Deliver or coordinate training on safety policies, procedures, and best practices. Promote fire safety awareness through educations, training, and facility inspections.

Collaborate cross-functionally to develop technical systems and reports that track and improve safety performance indicators.

Oversee annual safety budget planning and support budget development at assigned locations.

Manage HSE staff recruitment, training, performance, and development. Lead corporate safety projects and participate in committees as assigned.

Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations and standards across the U.S, Canada, and Mexico (e.g., OSHA,OH&S, NOM)
  • Proven ability to develop and implement HSE programs and drive continuous improvement
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver effective training and presentations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, cross-border environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across North America

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive HSE leadership experience, including multi-site and international oversight
  • CSP Certified considered an asset

Salary: $142,000-$180,000
